The International School of Nice regards each student as an individual learner with particular strengths, talents, interests and aspirations, and our curriculum aims at educating the whole person.
At ISN, we value the growth of the intellectual, artistic and creative as well as the physical and emotional dimensions. In addition to our academic programs, a range of stimulating activities both on and off campus provides opportunities for students to discover interests and life skills that go beyond the classroom. Students are thus encouraged to create, inquire, participate, perform, lead and produce, so broadening their own experience and understanding of themselves, each other, and the world we share.
The curriculum offers a balanced learning environment where students explore eight areas of study and find their strengths. All courses are subject specific although some are thematic in design. In grades 9 and 10, students make selections that will prepare them for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, a rigorous program that provides a framework for our curriculum and guides our approaches to learning. Students prepare a selection of IGCSE examinations at the end of Grade 10. Please click here for the Guide to the curriculum for grades 6 to 10. In grades 6-10, the curriculum is organized into eight main subject groups as shown below:

Our student body is a diverse mixture of different cultures and nationalities and ISN strives to create an atmosphere of respect and acceptance of different perspectives. Students explore related themes throughout the academic program with their teachers as well as learning from each other in and out of the classroom.
At ISN, our goal is to educatestudents who have the intellectual capacity to acquire, analyze, and communicate complex knowledge and who can use methods learned in various disciplines to pose and solve problems for themselves. Our students develop these skills through rigorous coursework, lively class discussions and independent research and writing. Each academic area is designed for students to develop life-long personal skills such as time management, information analysis, team work, self-reliance, acceptance and delegation of responsibility, and risk taking.
Courses offered in grades 9 and 10 are in the same eight subject areas as in Middle School, and students continue to take eight courses each semester. There are, however, some possibilities for choice and specialization. For example students may select their science courses from Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and choose courses in the Visual and Performing Arts and Humanities.
Graduation requirements at ISN guarantee that students maintain a balance in their studies at a time when strengths and talents are emerging and developing. This enables them to make informed choices at the end of grade 10 about their IB programs and eventual university courses.
In addition to their academic program, students will be encouraged to take initiatives in other areas of personal development. These include taking part in school theatrical and musical productions, organizing fund raising activities or coordinating events. At ISN we aim to create a culture in our school where students seize or create opportunities to explore talents, participate in projects and become increasingly confident in understanding themselves and others. Participation in a range of activities encourages them to become involved in a wider global context as well as develop social and leadership skills.
