College Counseling Print E-mail

The staff who provide academic guidance and university counselling are experienced, sensitive to students' needs and abilities, and give clear, constructive and realistic help to students and parents. They are qualified both by training and experience, and keep up-to-date with current trends in admissions by attending IB, ECIS, College Board and NACAC conferences and workshops.

I.S.N. provides a thorough university and career-counselling programme, beginning with interests and aptitudes testing in the 9th and 10th grade, followed by weekly scheduled sessions with the 11th and 12th grade students. In the 11th grade sessions, the guidance counsellors meet once a week for one period with the students to discuss the application process, required external testing requirements for the different university programs, and the differences in approach and demands of the various university systems. U.S., Canadian, U.K. and European college and university admissions officers visit the school each year on recruitment tours. When possible, presentations are also scheduled in which people from the local community come in to discuss careers with the students.

Academic counselling is the responsibility of the High School Principal and the IB Coordinator who directs students to courses that are relevant to their potential career ambitions. Particular problems are dealt with by teacher-parent conferences. Trimester reporting with mid-term warning letters is a rigorous system to monitor the academic progress of our students. Parents are involved throughout the counselling process.
