High School

At the International School of Nice on the azure coast of France, our high school provides for young people ages 14 to 19 and follows the IGCSE curriculum and the IB Diploma Programme.

The high school section is in the secondary area, complete with classrooms, the middle and high school library, a language room, an art studio, a music studio, an information technology room, a 300-seat theatre, a gymnasium, a weights room, outdoor sports facilities and recreational areas.

The high school years at ISN start in Grade 9 and finish in Grade 12 when students graduate. Once of high-school-age, students journey through Grades 9 and 10, between ages 14 and 16, as they complete core pre-IB courses and International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) qualifications.

Students journey through Grades 11 and 12, between ages 16 and 19, as they complete the two-year IB Diploma Programme and the ISN High School Diploma requirements, enabling them to obtain a double award.

Students are guided and supported to reach their potential in a safe and caring environment. A team of highly-qualified and experienced teachers respond to students’ diverse learning styles and challenges them through exciting and innovative practices.

Our high school class sizes are small, with a maximum of 22 students per class, and some of our IB course classes are relatively small.

Pre-IB Diploma years

Grades 9 and 10 are called the pre-IB Diploma years, and ISN offers students a wide range of learning opportunities. During this two-year period, high school students complete core Pre-IB courses and the IGCSE courses.

IGCSEs are a set of high-profile qualifications with an excellent reputation that provides a broad curriculum suitable for international schools.

Designed to encourage high academic standards, the two-year programme features subject-specific courses, each leading to a final external examination at the end of Grade 10.

To take into account students' ability levels, strengths and interests, some subjects offer a choice between core and extended examination options.

At ISN, we feel that rigorous external examinations provide students with valuable experience for the IB DP.

Grade 9 and 10 subjects

The courses are carefully chosen to thoroughly provide the foundation students need for the IB Diploma Programme. As indicated below, students must follow some core courses but also start to make choices that shape their academic profile. The following subjects are offered in Grades 9 and 10 as mandatory:

  • English* with Literature* for the most proficient students
  • French* with the opportunity to transfer across three groups: beginner, intermediate and francophone

In both Grades 9 and 10, students choose between one of three options for each non-mandatory IGCSE subject selection.
