At the International School of Nice on the azure coast of France, our primary school provides for children ages three to 11 and follows the IB Primary Years Programme.

The primary school section is contained in its own wing, complete with classrooms, the lower school library, a language room, an art studio, an outdoor learning area and a playground.

Our preschool children in the primary school, ages three to six, join our Young Explorers class (ages 3-4), followed by Pre-Kindergarten (ages 4-5) and Kindergarten (ages 5-6).

Once of primary-school-age, children journey through Grades 1 to 5, between ages six and 11, in the primary school before transitioning into Grade 6 in the middle school section at age 11.

For more information about our primary school or to book a visit to see the school, please fill out the form and we’ll be in touch.

At the International School of Nice, we acknowledge that the needs of all children are different. A feature of the teaching in the lower school is that it is focused on the individual needs of children.

Our team of experienced teachers provides a programme of study based on your child’s interests and curiosity. This makes learning meaningful and inspires children to take action on what they have learned.

We believe that students have a fundamental right to learn in a safe, supportive and secure environment where they can flourish in their own unique way. Every teacher promotes and celebrates the successes of each child.

Our class sizes are small, with a maximum of 15 students for the Young Explorers class and 23 for Pre-K, K and Grades 1 to 5, enabling our teachers to provide children with personalised attention.

Homeroom groupings

In the primary school, children are placed in homeroom groupings in the care of the main homeroom teacher, who actively engages them in developing skills and knowledge in and across all of the core subject areas of the PYP curriculum.

Subject areas include English language and literature, French, mathematics, science, arts, social studies and physical, social and personal education.

Specialist-led classes

English as an Additional Language (EAL), French, music and physical education are taught by specialist teachers who teach across the whole school.

Children from Kindergarten onwards take enriching, specialist-led classes in our library, music studio, information technology room, 300-seat theatre, gymnasium and sports facilities in the secondary area, preparing them for transitioning into middle school.
