Extracurricular Activities

Of equal significance to academic life, we invite our students to actively experience arts, sports and leadership opportunities through the school. Our school’s attentiveness to a child’s personal development sees the individual enthusiastically transform into a passionate and fulfilled young person.

While nourishing their minds and spirits, engaging in extracurricular activities also supports students in accessing selective institutions and programmes when they graduate from high school.

Many of the colleges and universities that ISN students apply to have a holistic approach to admissions. Extracurricular achievements and contributions, such as participation in sports tournaments, music exams or public-speaking courses, can help to demonstrate a student's initiative and maturity.

Sporting opportunities

Students play in intra-school sports competitions between different year groups. They prepare for inter-school tournaments where our teams compete in friendly games against schools in Europe and locally at sports tournaments open to all schools on the Côte d’Azur.

Our teams practice an assortment of games for European sports tournaments, with the focus being the Mediterranean Cup for International Schools held in Verona, Italy. This significant event is the biggest youth tournament held in Europe, open to teams of boys and girls from around the world who compete in football, basketball and volleyball.

The Globeducate Olympic Games, an annual sports event hosted by a school in our international network, offers students Olympics-themed competitions where they can enjoy collaborating with their peers from around the world.

Students also play sports and games on Mondays and Thursdays in our after-school activities.

Cultural Opportunities

Our children and young people have many opportunities to present their artwork and/or enjoy speaking, acting and singing on stage during events throughout the year, including:

  • ISN Musical Show
  • Summer and winter fête
  • Lower and Upper school concerts
  • Middle school drama productions
  • International schools’ speech contest
  • IB Visual Arts exhibition.

For middle school and high school students, ISN produces a locally renowned musical show every year. Students audition in September, with show rehearsals taking place after-school on Mondays, Thursdays (and some Saturdays).

Students can also enjoy our interest and performing arts courses on Mondays and Thursdays in our after-school activities.

ISN Partnerships

ISN offers students the opportunity to sit official drama and/or music exams with the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).

Your child may have the choice to take voice lessons or practice a musical instrument such as piano, guitar, violin, flute, saxophone, clarinet and drums via private tuition.

Leadership Opportunities

Student Council

The lower school, middle school and high school students each elect a Student Council, which acts as a liaison between students and other members of the school community, including teachers, administration and the Parent-Teacher Association. Student councils meet weekly, promoting activities and events for each section of the school to create a united and social atmosphere.

Prefects

In 2021, we introduced a prefect system as ISN’s form of student government.

Each school year, ten prefects will be elected to represent their classes and the whole student body, including a head girl, head boy, deputy head girl and deputy head boy.

The prefect system aims to empower students. The prefects will meet regularly with the school leadership team and act as a liaison between students and faculty.

In the lower school, our Green Team members unite in their vision to promote environmental awareness at ISN.
