Young Explorers (OLD)

Our new Young Explorers classroom for 3-4 years old is now open at the International School of Nice. With the help of our passionate teachers, your child’s journey of curiosity and creativity can flourish in our newly developed, play-based learning environment.

Activities such as yoga, music and arts blend indoor and outdoor learning together. The class has its own secure outdoor play area furnished with mud kitchens, sand and construction areas.

A tailored and dedicated learning environment

The Young Explorers class is where your child’s future starts.

  • Full time: 08:45-15:20
  • Part time: 08:45-12:00
  • Part time: 11:00-15:20

Through a learning environment which establishes collaboration, kindness, curiosity and independence, your child is given the best foundation to their education.

In a dedicated classroom, which allows children to take their learning outdoors into our secure gated area, our hours are 8.30am until 3.20pm each day, Monday-Friday, with lunch being served at 11.00am in the school canteen. In the afternoon, children can nap on a camp bed in a dark area, and then sit and share a snack together in the classroom.

Early childhood education in the Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Our class follows the IB Primary Years Early Years programme. IB knows that young learners are intelligent, resourceful and creative individuals who grow, develop and learn at different rates.

They explore their environment and learn about their world through play and relationships with peers, teachers, family and community members.

Early learning in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a holistic learning experience that integrates socio-emotional, physical and cognitive development. In the PYP classroom, it takes place in dynamic environments that promote play, discovery and exploration, both inside and outdoors.

In the Young Explorers classroom, students learn through doing (e.g., playing). They are active participants in their learning. The teachers ask questions and create experiences to facilitate learning based on the desired outcomes.

The power of play will become the primary vehicle for inquiry, supporting thoughtful and intentional opportunities for child-initiated play, hands-on learning, and the co-construction of learning between teachers and young learners. Through play and exploration, students will learn to inquire as they build and test theories to help make sense of the world around them.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning and development:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Mathematical Development
  • Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • EAD - Expressive Arts and Design
  • Literacy Development

The Early Years programme in our Young Explorers class enables your child to develop their self- confidence, talents and abilities. It allows them to form positive relationships with both their peers and adults and promotes them to become confident communicators.  Through this, it enables a smooth transition into our Prekindergarten class where their educational journey continues.
