From ISN to Sciences Po Paris: Uliana’s Journey of Curiosity, Community, and Global Perspectives

“Having that thirst for knowledge was the greatest boon for me during my exams—and if you nurture it, it will benefit you in the long run.”

For Uliana, the International School of Nice was more than a place of learning—it was home. Joining ISN in 2011 as a pre-kindergarten student, she spent her entire educational journey within the school's international community before graduating in 2025. Today, she is taking the next step in that journey at one of France's most prestigious institutions: Sciences Po Paris. 

A New Chapter at Sciences Po 

Uliana is currently pursuing the general Bachelor's programme at Sciences Po Paris, focusing primarily on Political Science. Her passion for understanding global issues and making a meaningful impact on society has naturally guided her toward this path. 

Yet, she believes many of the foundations that support her today were built during her years at ISN. 

A Graduation Moment to Remember 

When reflecting on her achievements, one moment stands out above all: being named salutatorian at her graduation. 

For Uliana, the honour represented much more than academic success—it was a celebration of years of curiosity, hard work, and the community that supported her along the way. 

“It felt like a culmination of the years I spent learning and inquiring, engaging with the material and opportunities at school. It was a wonderful moment where I could say thank you to my friends, family, and everyone who supported me—and especially the teachers, without whom I never would've been deserving of it.”

Preparing for University and Beyond 

According to Uliana, the International Baccalaureate played a key role in preparing her for university life.

The academic rigour, challenging workload, and emphasis on broadening perspectives helped ease her transition into higher education. The habits developed through the IB—critical thinking, independence, and intellectual curiosity—continue to serve her well at Sciences Po today. 

Teachers Who Inspire Futures 

One class in particular helped shape the direction of Uliana's future: Global Politics. 

She credits both the subject and her teacher for giving her the confidence to pursue political science and believe that she could one day contribute positively to the lives of others. 

At the same time, she highlights how different aspects of the ISN experience worked together to build her confidence and identity. 

“I would've never been comfortable with public speaking without theatre class, never worldly without Global Perspectives. The teaching community really did play a big role in the comfort I had with myself and my skills.”

Learning Beyond the Classroom 

Looking back, Uliana believes that some of the most valuable lessons she learned at ISN were the values embedded within everyday school life. 

The IB Learner Profile, became principles that she now carries with her as an adult: open-mindedness, empathy, curiosity, and respect for different perspectives. 

These qualities continue to influence both her academic journey and her outlook on the world. 

The Power of an International Community 

Growing up in an international school environment also left a lasting impression. 

For Uliana, being surrounded by students from diverse backgrounds created a sense of openness and global citizenship that she considers one of the greatest opportunities a young person can experience. 

“You become so much more open and comfortable with, really, anyone. The community is so lively and amicable, and it strengthens a sense of worldliness and even cosmopolitanism in you.”

Advice for Current ISN Students 

Her message to today's students is simple but powerful: never stop learning.

Whether through academics, hobbies, conversations, or experiences with friends, she encourages students to remain curious and continually seek new perspectives. 

“Learn something new if you can, deepen your understanding. Go to a pottery class with friends, read the full article an Instagram post links to, or watch a video essay while eating dinner. Having that thirst for knowledge will benefit you in the long run.”
