Learning Through Solidarity: ISN and EDHEC Workshops Across the School
Mélanie Laroche

This term, ISN was proud to welcome students from EDHEC Business School for a series of inspiring workshops across Primary, Middle, and High School. Designed around several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), these sessions encouraged our students to think critically, collaborate, and take action, perfectly aligned with this year’s theme of Solidarity.

Grade 4: SDG 14: Life Below Water

Our Grade 4 students took part in engaging marine conservation workshops focused on ocean pollution and protecting sea life. Through presentations, quizzes, and creative poster-making, students explored how human actions impact marine ecosystems and how small changes can make a big difference.

Liel shared, “I love the quiz when they scanned the answers. I’ve never done that before.”
Helena added, “I like making the poster about protecting marine sea life because I love drawing.”
Ethan enjoyed learning facts about migration, saying the questions about sea life were “very interesting.”

Grade 4A students later reflected in their article Fish are dying because of us!“This workshop encouraged the Grade 4s to start caring more about the ocean. Caroline said, ‘I will start picking up trash if I see some on the streets.’ The ocean is as dirty as a trash can and it’s your decision to make it clean.”

Grade 4B students also shared their experience in Save Marine Animals!: “We learnt how pollution affects marine animals and why it is important to stop plastic waste… One of us said, ‘No ocean, no humans! If we want to save the ocean, this is how we do it.’ Save the ocean – save our future!”

These workshops clearly showed how solidarity with nature begins with awareness  and continues through action.

Grade 3: SDG 15: Life on Land & Environmental Responsibility

Another EDHEC group led sessions on sustainability, helping students understand what is good (and harmful) for the environment, and how solidarity extends to protecting life on land.

Eva reflected, “It was very interesting, and I learned new things.”
Malaury added, “I was impressed!”

Amalia agreed, "I was surprised because I wondered how they could come to our school and give the lesson to us. They were not shy and could talk so clearly to us."

EDHEC student Louis said, "I was impressed by how well the students handled it."

Grade 6 and Grade 9: SDGs 8 & 12: Responsible Consumption and Sustainable Growth

Middle School students explored responsible consumption and sustainable development, learning how everyday choices connect to global challenges. They also learned organisational tools and study methods, initially designed to support students with ADHD but useful for everyone.

Grade 9 students focused on how to read and understand texts, develop vocabulary through context, and strengthen general learning strategies, particularly for English as a second language.

An EDHEC student, Solomiia, shared:

“We really enjoyed the whole process, from designing the workshops with the support of Ms Richter and the REACH centre to the seminars themselves. We were very happy to see the interest and involvement of students in the learning process. We are sincerely grateful to ISN and the REACH centre for welcoming us with open arms — it is a great honor for us to collaborate with ISN for the benefit of education and the future generation of leaders.”

Grade 11: SDG 3: Wellbeing and Public Harassment Awareness

Our Grade 11 students participated in a powerful workshop focused on wellbeing and public harassment in transport, particularly for girls. This session encouraged empathy, awareness, and action, reminding students that solidarity also means standing up for others and creating safer public spaces.

These workshops were a wonderful example of learning through collaboration and compassion. From protecting oceans and ecosystems to supporting wellbeing and responsible choices, our students experienced what solidarity truly means, acting together for people, planet, and future generations.

A special thank you to EDHEC, Ms Richter from the REACH center, Grade 3 and 4 teachers, and all involved for making this meaningful partnership possible.
