ISN Nice Carnival with Arts International

ISN Nice Carnival with Arts International
Jennifer Wallace

Last week ISN Nice celebrated carnival for the first time in two years! We were delighted to partner once more with Arts International, to welcome two professionals from the world of Musical Theatre to work with our students on a performance around the theme of 'The King of the Animals'.

Students from Grades 3, 4, 6 and 7 worked with Sam Lothwood (Mary Poppins, Matilda the Musical), and Cat Hannay (Mary Poppins, Les Misérables) all week on dance performances involving choreography and props to celebrate Carnival. Each grade performed their own personal routine, and then all the students came together for a grand finale to 'The Circle of Life' from The Lion King.

Opportunities like this take learning beyond the classroom for our students, and working with professionals like Sam and Cat inspires and motivates them, as well as boosting their confidence. Sacha in Grade 6 shared the following 'This experience is really teaching us about coordination, flexibility, performing skills and confidence.'

Here is what our visiting professionals had to say:

  • 'Your students jumped in and developed their confidence and ability to perform. So much enthusiasm and so much fun! Thank you for your warm welcome ISN!' Cat Hannay
  • 'Mrs Curtis you are building a wonderful community at school. Your teachers, parents and students are fantastic. After such a difficult two years, to see the spirit of a school shine and to feel its heart beat has given me the best week of the post-pandemic world. Can we come back?!' Sam Lathwood

We are proud of every single one of the students who performed, you gave it your all! And thank you to the PTA for their carnival decorations and drinks and snacks, and to the teachers who accompanied their students throughout the week.

For our next event with Arts International, we hope to be partnering with our ICS sisters schools in Milan and London, for a special performance around the theme of 'Shaping the World'.
