Introducing the Globeducate Hi!Ai Sustainable Cities Project!
Michelle Van Buuren
We are excited to share that ISN is participating in the Globeducate Hi!Ai Sustainable Cities Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at preparing students with the knowledge and skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving world. This innovative programme explores the dynamic relationship between artificial intelligence (AI), urban microclimates, and sustainability, creating a strong foundation in both technology and environmental science.
The project offers engaging, hands-on experiences for students across both the Primary and Secondary Schools, helping them connect with sustainability concepts through interactive learning.
In the Primary School, our students will take part in exciting missions, including:
- Building a Terrarium: A living ecosystem model to help students understand environmental processes.
- Smart Garden: Exploring the technology behind sustainable gardening.
- Smart Microscope for Outdoor Exploration: Using AI-powered microscopes to observe nature up close.
- Satellite Flowerpots – SmartPlants: Exploring sustainable solutions through AI-driven plant care.
- AI-powered Flower Chat-Pot (FCP): Engaging with an AI system designed to monitor and “communicate” with plants.
In the Secondary School, our students will tackle other missions, including:
- 3D City Representation: Creating models to visualise urban environments.
- Simulating City Environments: Understanding city dynamics through simulation.
- AI Vision Data Collecting System: Learning how AI gathers and analyses data.
- City Sensors on Vehicles: Collecting real-time dynamic data from urban settings.
- School Custom Data Collection Server and Ground Station Control Centre: Managing data and controlling systems for comprehensive learning.
Before the holidays, our Primary School student team proudly presented the terrarium during the school assembly. This hands-on tool will allow all Primary students to interact with a living ecosystem during the second semester.
In the Secondary School, students started with the creation of a 3D City Model, which is currently being displayed on the wall in the ISN Space Centre. This will allow students to visualise and simulate urban environments, bringing the concept of sustainable cities to life.
Stay tuned as our Hi!Ai Sustainable Cities Project evolves, bringing exciting new opportunities for students to explore sustainability and AI!
