Melanie Laroche and Michelle van Buuren
We are incredibly proud to announce that the International School of Nice (ISN) has once again been honoured with the Eco-Schools Gold Award! Securing this prestigious international accolade for the third year in a row is a fantastic milestone for our community. It highlights the deeply embedded culture of sustainability, creativity, and student-led environmental action that makes our school a leading choice for international education on the French Riviera.

Throughout the academic year, our globally minded students have actively explored sustainable development. Rather than learning about environmental challenges in isolation, they have woven these vital global topics directly into daily life at ISN Nice. By pairing classroom inquiry with hands-on learning experiences, our students learn to think critically and act responsibly as compassionate global citizens.
A Culture of Sustainability Across the IB Curriculum
Over the years, our school community has explored a diverse range of critical environmental themes, including waste reduction, biodiversity, energy conservation, and water stewardship. This year, our focus turned toward the powerful theme of Solidarity, demonstrating how protecting our planet goes hand-in-hand with caring for local and global communities.

Every single student, staff member, and family member contributed to this shared success. From the high-energy student action seen during our traditional Eco Weeks to distinct cross-curricular achievements, sustainability was brought to life across all age groups:
-
Inspirational School Creativity: Engaging classroom activities saw our learners expressing core environmental values through original poems, songs, and video projects.
-
Milestone IB Projects: Exceptional student agency was on display during the Grade 6 French Language B project, dynamic MYP (Middle Years Programme) Interdisciplinary Projects, and the annual Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition.
-
High School Leadership: Our older students demonstrated real-world leadership through impactful Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) initiatives dedicated to ecological and social causes.
-
The Expressive Arts: The spectacular production of the Jungle Show beautifully fused artistic expression with environmental awareness.
Next Objective: The Eco-Schools Platinum Award!
"Maintaining our gold status is a true reflection of the passion and engagement shared by our staff and students," says Mélanie Laroche, Science and Sustainability Coordinator at ISN Nice. "With only three more Eco-Schools themes left to explore, our sights are now firmly set on the highest possible recognition: the Eco-Schools Platinum Award. It is an ambitious objective, but seeing the immense motivation, enthusiasm, and creativity within our classrooms every day, I am incredibly confident we will reach this milestone in the coming years."

Looking ahead to the next school year, our student body will have the exciting opportunity to democratically select the next theme to guide our Eco-School journey, keeping student voice at the very center of our environmental stewardship.
A profound thank you—Merci ! Gracias !—to our enthusiastic students, dedicated staff, and supportive families. Together, we continue to build, support, and nourish a thriving international community that cares deeply for people and the planet here on the Côte d'Azur.
