Workshop Debate on Feminist Diplomacy and Climate Urgency
Workshop Debate on Feminist Diplomacy and Climate Urgency
Michelle Van Buuren
Last week ISN had the privilege of hosting two distinguished guests: Mme. Georgia Brochard, Mission Officer to the High Official for Equality of Rights, care of the Directorate for the Americas and the Caribbean from the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mme. Maty Diouf, Deputy Mayor of Nice, in charge of Anti-discrimination, Women's Rights, International Solidarity and Humanitarian Action.
The event was a workshop debate centred around the theme "La diplomatie féministe face au défi de l’urgence environnementale et climatique" (Feminist diplomacy tackling the challenge of environmental and climate urgency), focusing on women's diplomacy and gender equality.
Our Grade 10 and 11 students eagerly participated in the workshop, demonstrating a commendable level of enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity. The session was a dynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives which, due to time constraints, focused mainly on the feminist diplomacy as a whole.
The students didn't shy away from asking insightful questions that sparked meaningful discussions. Mme. Diouf expressed immense pride in the quality of interaction with our students, highlighting the importance of engaging young minds in discussions on anti-discrimination, women's rights, international solidarity, and humanitarian action.
Mrs. Georgia Brochard, Mission Officer to the High Official for Equality of Rights, is a part of the "Le Quai d'Orsay - Hors Les Murs" program run by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE). This program is designed to provide young people with comprehensive insights into France's diplomatic action, increase awareness of the diverse professions within the MEAE, and bridge the gap between diplomacy and audiences traditionally distant from such matters.
ISN extends heartfelt gratitude to both Mme. Brochard and Mme. Diouf for generously dedicating their time and expertise to discuss these crucial topics with our students. The workshop broadened our students' perspectives and served as an opportunity to inspire the next generation to actively contribute to positive change.
