The school originated as the American International School (AIS) in 1977, evolving into the International School of Nice in 1990.

Idyllically situated in multicultural Nice, the capital of France’s Alpes-Maritimes region, this independent school with instruction in English was founded for globally-mobile families aspiring to international education on the Côte d'Azur.

Once the school was renamed ISN, the International Baccalaureate organisation authorised the implementation of the Diploma Programme. In the same year, the school was accredited by the Middle States Association and the Council of International Schools, awarded accreditation again in 2000 and 2011.

In 2012, the school advanced as a recognised IB World School providing the Primary Years Programme. Half a decade later, the International School of Nice celebrated 40 years of excellence.
