Move to the French Riviera

The Côte d'Azur, also known as the French Riviera, is synonymous with sunshine, beauty, and a vibrant lifestyle. From Cannes to Monaco, ISN families are spread across the region, immersing themselves in the natural splendour and cultural richness of this unique part of southern France.

Why Choose the Côte d'Azur?

1. Family friendly: The region boasts a high standard of living, with access to excellent education, healthcare, and recreational facilities. There is also a strong sense of community, with various events, festivals, and activities catering to families, fostering social connections and a supportive environment.

2. Stunning scenery & climate: rom sparkling Mediterranean waters and pebble beaches to hillside villages draped in greenery and historic charm, the Riviera is a feast for the eyes at every turn. With over 300 days of sunshine on average, mild winters and warm summers, outdoor living here is not just a season—it’s a way of life

3. Rich cultural heritage
Art, history and modern culture merge seamlessly. You’ll find world-class museums and galleries, film festivals (notably in Cannes), vibrant markets, and a calendar full of music, theatre and cuisine events.

4. Leisure & lifestyle opportunities
Whether your family enjoys water sports, hiking in nature reserves, relaxing on the beach, yacht outings or exploring ancient villages, the Riviera offers a wide array of leisure activities to suit every interest and age group.

5. Strategic location & connectivity
Based along the Côte d'Azur, you’re well-positioned not only to enjoy local charms, but also to travel easily — with Nice airport, high-speed trains and major roads connecting you to the rest of France, Italy and beyond.

Where do ISN families live?

From Cannes to Monaco, ISN families are spread across the stunning Côte d'Azur, calling some of the most iconic towns of the French Riviera home. Below are just a few of the areas our families chose to live.

  • Cannes – Enjoy the glamour of the Croisette, the charm of the old town (Le Suquet) and easy access to beaches, dining and shopping.

  • Antibes – A more relaxed pace: stroll through Provençal markets, enjoy the artistic heritage (Picasso museum), and linger in a friendly town with seaside appeal.

  • Nice – In the heart of the Riviera: vibrant city life meets Mediterranean calm. Wander the colourful Old Town (Vieux-Nice), relax on the Promenade des Anglais and benefit from strong transport links.

  • Monaco – For those seeking sophistication and stunning cliff-side views, Monte Carlo offers an enviable lifestyle, world-class amenities and proximity to ISN.

Wherever you choose, families at ISN embrace the distinct Riviera lifestyle—sun, sea, culture and community. To make life easier, ISN operates dedicated school buses running from Monaco to Cannes, ensuring a safe and convenient journey for students each day.

Practical Moving Tips: Making the Transition Smooth

✅ Visas & residency
If relocating from abroad, ensure you have the correct visa, work permit or residence documentation. France offers various types of residence permits, depending on employment, self-employment or family reasons—check with your local French consulate or immigration service.

✅ Housing & neighbourhoods
Start your home search early. The Riviera is in demand, especially during summer months. Decide what you’re looking for: proximity to ISN, access to transport links, lifestyle preferences (beach, hills, town centre) and budget. Local estate agents can assist.

✅ Schools & enrolment
At ISN, we welcome international families and offer guidance throughout the admissions process. We are an IB World School for children ages 3 - 18 years.  If you have younger siblings, explore nurseries in the area ahead of time.

✅ Healthcare & insurance
France has an excellent healthcare system. Make sure you register for French health insurance if eligible, or arrange private health cover. Locate your nearest “médecin généraliste” (GP) and become familiar with local pharmacies.

✅ Getting around
Public transport is efficient: trains, buses and trams connect towns along the coast. For full flexibility, many families use a car—remember to check French driving-licence rules and parking considerations in the towns you are exploring.

✅ Language & integration
While English is widely spoken in international communities, learning some French will enhance your experience. Schools, shops and social networks often welcome newcomers—joining local groups or associations can help you integrate socially and culturally.
