International School of Nice students enjoy a thriving creative arts offering in Visual Arts, Music and Theatre on the azure coast of France

With an emphasis on the arts, ISN attracts and enriches an arts-driven community of students and parents who share in our creative arts events.

Our annual arts festival is an enjoyable, whole-school creative arts celebration. We share our city with Opéra de Nice and Nice Acropolis, significant arts venues for theatrical and orchestral performances.

Visual Arts

Students start with an exploration of the arts during their primary school years in the lower school, culminating in their PYP exhibition. Next, students advance to Visual Arts in middle school, where the approach focuses on skills-based learning underpinned by artist investigation.

Students enhance these skills, playing to their strengths as they progress on to high school, where they can select Visual Arts at the IGCSE level and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) level.

IB Visual Arts proves an exemplary springboard for those wanting to study Visual Arts at degree level while promoting lifelong enrichment through visual arts.

IB Visual Arts students are empowered with a strong foundation, exposing them to a variety of forms and media, including:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Sculpture
  • 3D design
  • Photography

ISN has the apparatus and technology readily available for students’ independent investigation in media such as film.

Extracurricular activities

Our senior students fly to London for an exciting arts trip where they soak up theatrical shows and art exhibitions.

The Globeducate Virtual Arts Competition, an annual event held online, invites students to express themselves through the arts in friendly rivalry against schools across the globe.

Students can also enjoy extracurricular arts fun through interest courses and performing arts on Mondays and Thursdays in our after-school activities.

Music

Preschool children through Grade 8 enjoy specialist-led musical education. The PYP units of inquiry frame students’ learning as they make observations about music from across cultures and take insight from musical role models. Practical music lessons incorporate:

  • Voice
  • Keyboard
  • Recorder
  • Ukulele
  • Percussion
  • An introduction to brass instruments.

Students in Grades 4 to 8 study musical theory in books of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) with the option to sit the official music exams.

Private music lessons are available at ISN in voice and a range of instruments such as:

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Violin
  • Flute
  • Saxophone
